Internet Bundling: Pros and Cons You Should Know

My experience with bundling various internet services like internet, TV, and mobile has been like a rollercoaster ride till now. Sometimes, getting multiple services in a bundle feels like a real blessing, especially when I enjoy exclusive perks from internet service providers (ISPs). Other times, chances are if one bundled service is down, others may be unavailable as well.

That said, the internet bundling journey with my current ISP; Spectrum is going like a breeze, the details of which I share later in this article. But right now, I provide an unfiltered experience of using the internet bundles.

Below are some major pros and cons, so in case you ever plan to subscribe to one, you know what you’re getting into:

Pros of Internet Bundles:

  • Convenience:

Often for those people who don’t want to deal with multiple service providers, internet bundling is an unmatched convenience. With internet bundling, you can shop for different services like phone, TV, or home security with internet under the same roof. Plus, for a person like me who often forgets to pay bills on time, a single bill for all the bundled services is nothing less than a blessing.

Additionally, a single customer support for all the Internet bundled services also makes things easier for bundle users. In case of any internet outage, channel unavailability, or any other issue, I don’t have to juggle between different support teams. So yes, convenience is definitely a plus with internet bundles.

  • Cost-Effective:

I believe bundling your internet with other services like phone, cable TV, home security and mobile is a cost-effective option.

Yes, on the face value, internet bundle plans may feel costlier. But you need to understand the reason behind it. It’s because in internet bundles, multiple services, often two or more, are included, which naturally adds to the total bill for all services.

On the bright side, ISPs may offer discounts or better promotional prices when you include different services with the internet. Plus they may also offer discounts for the installation of multiple services, which could cost you more if you avail services from different providers.

  • Better Services:

Another perk of subscribing to an internet bundle plan is that there’s a chance that you may get better services by paying less.In most cases, ISPs may offer higher download/upload speeds, unlimited nationwide/international calling, more TV channels, multiple add-ons, and other perks with internet bundle plans. These perks and benefits may otherwise cost more if you go for these services separately.

  • Miscellaneous Benefits:

Besides the benefits that I have discussed above, there are several other perks that I’ll explain here. Most ISPs have data caps on their internet plans. But, in most cases, ISPs remove the data cap when you bundle the internet with other services.

Furthermore, ISPs may also offer free internet equipment such as routers, modems, or a gateway. As for me, I have bundled my internet with TV through Spectrum deals. Besides the high-speed internet and hundreds of TV channels, Spectrum also offers a free modem, which saves a considerable amount on rental fees, every month.

Cons of Internet Bundling:

  • Quality Concerns:

When you bundle the internet with other services, there is always a chance that the ISP may focus more on one service over the other. For instance, in case of internet and TV bundle, this may lead to compromised internet speeds with extensive channel line-ups or vice versa.

Additionally, ISPs may also bind you in a contract with internet bundle plans. To opt out of them, you may need to pay the early termination fee first. So, do extensive research about the service providers before you sign up for their internet bundle plans.

  • Price Increase:

Some ISPs may offer internet bundle plans at promotional prices to attract customers. However, as soon as the promotional period ends, they may significantly increase the bundle prices after the promotional period ends. Also, as discussed above, ISPs may also bind you in a contract which may be anywhere from 6 to 24 months.

So, you might end up paying a hefty cost for an internet bundle or early termination fee.

Bonus Section: How to Choose the Best Internet Bundle:

Choosing the best internet bundle is quite different than choosing an internet plan. It’s because you need to assess different services rather than focusing on just the internet. That said, the following tips may help you choose the best internet bundle:

·         Carefully Research Internet Service Providers:

The first step is to carefully research the reliable internet service providers that are offering internet bundles in your area. As most ISPs offer internet bundle plans, compare their prices, perks, and other factors like quality of customer support and contracts.

·         Determine Your Needs:

Once you’ve chosen a reliable internet service provider, explore their internet bundle plans. Make sure you choose the bundle services that satisfy your needs.

·         Watch Out for Additional Perks:

In most cases, ISPs offer additional perks to internet bundle users. However, those benefits may differ with internet bundle plans and it’s up to you to choose the one you want.

·         Understand Terms and Conditions:

After finalizing the internet bundle plan, carefully read and understand the terms and conditions. Here, you might learn about the contract termination fee, hidden charges, and more.
